Miehsam

That means “difficult” or “hard work” (more or less) in Swiss German.

I’ve been copypasting the lost blog entries by hand. Finished the study journal, but am nowhere near done here. But I’ll get there eventually, working my way back to my first post.

Been enjoying to surf some blogs from my “interesting people” blogroll – it’s not as easy as my friendslist on LiveJournal, but it’s more individual and diverse. Now, if only my own blog was as interesting… πŸ™‚

Will go downtown this afternoon, to buy train tickets to visit MΓ€rrie, get some new books (and the latest Ben Harper CD!) from the library, and find out about restoring my Australia photos to my camera. Once I’ve made a decision about the photos (is it really an option or should I just forget about it?), I can start taking pictures again – Saturday the big fall fair starts again, which is always fun and should give some photo opportunities.

I’m such a web amateur!

So this is not so easy after all – the blog was down for a while, because I was stupid and misspelled the local site path. Thanks to girlie at the MT forum that’s fixed now. But as you might see the importing of the old entries didn’t work – it only imported the title lines. Weird, that… Well, at least the blog is up and running again!

Moved!

So the moving is complete – everything is on a new server… Only thing that obviously did not get imported is the comments, which is a pity. But at least I did manage to import all my entries – I just don’t know why everything ends with a /… Oh well, could have been worse. Could not have worked at all! πŸ™‚

Now it’s Sunday and my mom is calling me for tea and viewing of their holiday pictures. Catch ya later!

Moving webhosts

I am currently switching to a reseller plan with another webhost and have (among other things) to reinstall MovableType in the process. So if in the next couple of days this site appears to be down, or wacky, that’s the reason. Wish me luck! πŸ™‚

Picknick in the sun

My mom had made cake yesterday, which I hadn’t eaten because I was at work. Therefore this afternoon found me sitting in my room, on the floor in the one spot reached by the sun, window wide open, eating delicious blackberry/peach cake while listening to my new CD and reading Alice Sebold’s “The Lovely Bones” (one of my favorite books ever). Bliss. One of those days that stick in your memory with warmth and love and peace…

Speaking about memories – here’s this week’s Unconscious Mutterings:

  1. Partner:: would be nice, but isn’t necessary at the moment.
  2. Goddess:: why not?
  3. Village:: small, narrow, but peaceful
  4. Relationships:: spice up life
  5. Irrational:: I try not to be
  6. Volcano:: Hawaii
  7. Fabulous:: glitter and glamour
  8. Unencumbered:: a lovely feeling…
  9. Coyotes:: funny looking creatures
  10. Fulfilled:: right this moment

Btw, if you want your own chocolatedream.net email addy – there’s a link for that in the new fun section to the right.

Impressions and preparations

Slowly I start counting the days – in exactly two weeks I’ll be sitting in the plane to Dubai… Got my Aussie and Kiwi money in the mail today, as well as my travel insurance, and wen to buy a 256MB flash card for my beloved new Canon Ixus v.3. Yep, it’s getting close!

Today is the only ‘free’ day I have – I work every day until Sunday, except for Thursday, when I’m invited to a August 1st party (which is our National holiday and strangely enough always celebrated with fireworks the night before). Not particularly looking forward to it, due to some stuff going on with my friends, but it’ll be nice anyway, I think – specially because the friends giving the party (my ex-boyfriend and his -male- life partner) live in an excellent location to watch the fireworks over the Rhine…

Talking about views – I took a couple of pics: One of the sky last night, which was absolutely gorgeous, and one of the larger-than-life Spiderman that used to walk up a theatre and has now found a new home quite near our house.

When I came home from work yesterday night, this just took my breath away… Always makes me feel so very grateful for all the beauty surrounding me.

Every time on my way to and from the city I pass this bright yellow house, and it never fails to make me smile. The people living there must be comic freaks, because not only do they own Spidey, there’s also a huge Marsupilami looking out one window.

Today I got a CD from a friend from Canada in the mail – it was still in one piece and I’m now happily listening to all kinds of lovely music. Thanks to Poisoned I’ve also managed to d/l quite a bit of stuff, for example some of Anouk’s (one of the singers from the Gurten festival) songs. Very glad that this works so well, because I simply didn’t manage to make xmule work for me, although a friend tried to talk me through the process on installing it. I think I’ll delete all the crap I’ve d/led in the process one of these days – space is getting sparse on my laptop with all the pics, programs, and music…

I’ve also tried to make comment notification work here, but without success – now I hope that someone in the support forum can help me. But since I update from the website anyway (because Kunglog suddenly refused to recognize me) I see comments anyway, so it’s not so bad.

And I swear, I didn’t plan to go on like this! Stopping now – well, for the moment, at least… πŸ™‚

Categories and linkage

I organized my entries into categories – if I don’t do it now, while the blog is still pretty small (43 entries, I think), I’ll never do it and it’ll all be a big ole mess… It always amazes me what kind of patience I have for nitpicky things like this – I wish I was this conscientious about my uni stuff! πŸ™‚

Also, I got a reciprocal link from Random Perspective, together with compliments for this here thing. Heh, that makes me inordinately happy, because that site (and, hence, the guy behind it) kicks ass. Go me! *g*

And this has been entry #3 for today – I’m pretty sure that’s a record for this blog. But don’t think that this is going to be a habit! πŸ™‚

New layout for Independent Love Song\

Because I found so many pretty layouts in my hunt last week I decided to overhaul Independent Love Song as well. Was quite a bit of work because my personal site may not be updated often, but it sure has a lot of pages…

Isn’t it pretty now? πŸ™‚

This afternoon I’ll try to come up with a concept for my Salome paper. I don’t want to write it, the whole thing has gone sour — I don’t like having to force myself to write something for the teacher instead of for myself. This will be the hardest paper I’ve ever written — I don’t have any ideas and will probably have to fight for every single sentence. 20 pages seems like a lot, suddenly, while normally I always have too much material and ideas. *sigh*

But it can’t be helped, the stupid thing has to be written in the next four weeks.

Created a study journal

For my fieldtrip exercise to New Zealand I had the idea of creating a journal for all the notes taken during the time. It seems to me, as if that way I’ll manage to keep everything in order, nicely in one place and with different categories — much better than emailing myself stuff to work with at home or printing it and using up tons of paper.

I called it he korero mai ra Aotearoa, which (according to my dictionary) means something like “notes from New Zealand”. At least I hope so! πŸ™‚

Done!

Changed the layout for the domain, woman, and learning pages as well – now only the travel log is missing, and that’s going to be a bit more complicated, because it’s on LiveJournal.

But no matter — what do you think? I personally am pretty happy with it — it reminds me of New Zealand for some reason and is therefore perfect for this summer…

Staying in tonight, still a bit groggy from Thursday’s headache of hell (let me tell you — if I start having migraines, I’ll get pissy…) and have to work tomorrow morning. So couch potato it is… πŸ™‚
