I have no idea why, but the blog seems very slow to load. I might play around with the plugins I’m using to check if it’s one of them causing the delay. Until then, my apologies.

WordPress updated
Finally updated the blog to the latest version. Also changed the layout.
Keeping track of my other online activities
I discovered a handy Plugin that allows me to add RSS feeds from other sites I use directly to this blog. At the moment you can see Flickr photos, LibraryThing books and my travel blog posts, all in this one location… 🙂
You can tell where a post originates from by looking at the ‘Posted by’ bit under the entry.
Follow me…
In order to keep track of my online activities, I’ve set up a Tumblr account where I’ll link to my travel log updates as well as anything else of interest. I’ll probably also use it as a blog-type thing once I’m back home.
Lifesaver…
I finally found a plugin to handle the thousands of spam comments that had completely flooded my moderation queue – many thanks, Bluetrait!

Leaving for New Zealand
In four days I’m leaving Switzerland for about a year (return date hasn’t been set yet). First I’ll spend two weeks in California, visiting my friend Bronwyn near San Francisco, then it’s back to school in Wellington, New Zealand. You can follow my adventures abroad on my brandnew travel domain (which includes a blog, of course), InForeignParts.net.
Bye bye for now! 🙂
Anti-spam measures
I finally got tired of all the spam comments that made the moderation queue of this blog a nightmare, so I installed Akismet and Peter’s Random Anti-Spam, a Captcha plugin. This means you’ll have to enter some random letters and number when commenting, but this hopefully also means legitimate comments won’t end up in the Moderation Queue of DOOM anymore…
Typical
Having just upgraded, they discovered a grave security risk. Good thing I just found instructions to upgrade using shell access, which made the whole process a matter of minutes.
Being on a Mac, I have also found a link to an upgrade shell script. Might try this for some of my other WP installations, as they all predate my move to DreamHost with their nifty one-click-installs and -upgrades.
New layout
Updated to the latest version of WordPress and used the opportunitey to change the layout. Pretty, hm?
New blog layout
Because summer is definitely over (it’s been quite miserable until about an hour ago), I decided it was time to say ‘bye bye’ to my lovely sunflower layout and ‘hello’ to something a bit more autumn-y… Really, with so many nice WP themes available, there really is no reason to do one by myself! 🙂
