Ouch

Since yesterday evening my left hand is hurting – as if I pulled a muscle in my palm or something. Not that that’s likely, seeing that I’m right-handed and didn’t do anything strenuous. Still, it’s bloody annoying (not to say painful) – I never noticed for how many things I need my left hand! Also makes typing difficult and, together with a crick in my neck, makes for a very cranky Eva today. Blech!

Edit: Now it’s afternoon and my hand is better. Still no clue what exactly is wrong, but at least I can type again…

And the week’s already over

So normal life has me again… All my classes have started and it looks to be a good semester. Don’t have a lot of hours anymore – I only needed four to fulfill all requirements but took 12. Because I’m a good student like that. πŸ˜€

Good thing about the few hours is that it gives me time to think about the last two papers I have to write as well as give some more thought to my thesis topic. This uni thing is going pretty well at the moment. I have to do some small things for several classes, but managed to have them either now or at the end of the semester, giving me free time for when my friend Bronwyn comes to visit for two weeks in May. That’s going to be so much fun! πŸ™‚

Anyway, here’s this week’s Unconscious Mutterings:

  1. Horrendous:: experience
  2. Home video:: not something I’ve ever done
  3. What a girl wants:: what a girl needs…
  4. Grounded:: American teenager thing
  5. Trusting:: implicitly
  6. Simplistic:: simple
  7. Buzz:: cut
  8. Balcony:: Romeo and Juliet
  9. Roar:: lion
  10. Hooker:: prostitute

It’s over

My parents silver wedding anniversary has passed – and was a big success! Everyone (all 50+ friends and family) who came to Schloss Beuggen, either for just yesterday or to spend the night, enjoyed it and was more than kind about my and Michael’s organizational skills. Best thing, though? My parents loved it.

My mom wore flowers in her hair and literally glowed, the evening program (which Michi and I had carefully kept secret) went for a bit longer than expected but otherwise smoothly, there was lots of laughter and conversations between people who had either not seen each other in a long time (like me and some of my cousins) or never met before. There were loads of photos taken, but none of them by me, since I happily passed on ‘camera duty’ to others. Might share some pictures later, once they made their way to us.

Now everything has been unpacked, the gifts (which were given despite my parents asking for people to not bring any) have been unwrapped – and we’re all really wiped out. It’s been an intense weekend! Now things can go back to normal, and everyday uni life has me again… With that I’m off the internet, watching more ER and drinking tea. πŸ™‚

ETA (‘edited to add’): Much less positive – my sites have been having some problems, as you might have noticed when you tried to access either the blog or the domain and came up with either a 404 or a strangely empty index page… I’ve had to re-open the support request regarding the issue about three times already – they always tell me they solved it, but then it happens again. Getting very tired of it, believe me!

Appearing quickly

Did manage to finish the paper (yay!), but am still pretty busy (and slightly stressed about it) because the new semester has started and my parents’ silver wedding anniversary is next weekend. Trying not to freak out over everything that still needs doing… Just wanted to check in quickly and post this banner:

(German site looking for realistic solutions for the file sharing problem, since there’s been so much talk about criminalizing us evil pirates.)

DreamJournal update – and concert news

Just wanted to let you know, that I have moved my Dream log to DreamJournal, which Patty recommended to me. I like that they help you figure out some of the symbols and what they might mean.

Pretty excited right now, since I just discovered that Tori Amos will play a show in Switzerland after all! Yay – she’s one of my alltime favorites!

Now I just have to find someone to go see her with me…

Also – the Eels are coming, too! Would definitely be interested in seeing them as well. We’ll see how it goes with the money, I guess.

Being a good girl

This week is the last week of my break, and that means I had to pull myself together and finally seriously get to work on that paper. So I’ve banned myself from online and pretty much stay holed up in my room, trying to stop myself from banging my head against the wall. πŸ˜€

It’s very slow going, every paragraph a struggle, but I’ve reached page 13 (of 20 required pages) and I feel as if I might get there. Eventually. If I don’t get distracted too often by my parents’ silver wedding anniversary celebration (April 9/10, at a castle/conference center at the Rhine, with about 50 guests) and complicated plans to rearrange my furniture so I can get rid of the tiny teeny desk I’m sitting on right now, that is. Wish me luck, okay? πŸ™‚

Feeling somewhat better today, although still a bit off. Had a hairdresser’s appointment this morning. As usual she made my hair all pretty, but sadly it got rained on on the way back home and suffered. πŸ™ But my dad took pictures of it anyway:

Great timing

Should be writing a dream log entry, since I had yet another novella-like dream last night (involving some of my friends and acquaintances, as well as a silent movie theatre, a car and a castle). But I’ve got a touch of the flu and just don’t feel like it. As usual I can’t concentrate worth shit. And here I thought I’d survived this winter surprisingly healthy…

Tax season, ugh!

I despise doing my taxes. Not that’s it’s very difficult in my case, seeing that all I have to do is copy my bank balance for them and thus prove that my income is waaay under the tax limit. But still, I procrastinate about it every single year, until the deadline is just around the corner. As you might have suspected already, it’s March 30, so I’ve been “enjoying” myself this morning going through my bank information. Fun! πŸ˜‰

Uni schedule for the summer semester

My break is over in two weeks, so I thought it was time to put together my schedule for the next semester. Go me! πŸ™‚

The coolest thing is that I went through my notebook and realized that I’ve got enough classes in all three subjects for my degree! So all I have to do is go to that one Oberseminar in German Lit and finish my papers, and nothing should be in the way of me signing up for my Masters thesis/exam after this semester… Okay, so that won’t be before January 2006, because of the stupid deadlines, but still – another step in the right direction!

The classes I’m taking (just to make sure and because I’d feel strange not taking any *g*):

Cultural Anthropology
– “On the African Occult. Religion and Witchcraft in Historical Perspective” (seminary)
– “Picture – Image – Media” – the anthropology of media (seminary)

Medias
– Popular culture and the medias (proseminary)
– Classics of media theory (proseminary)

German Lit
– Literary ethnography (lecture)
– Early mass medias and the beginning of the novella (“ober”-seminary)

And this week’s Unconscious Mutterings:

  1. Stink:: WΓ€scheklammer (clothes pin – in my nose *g*)
  2. Renewal:: domain
  3. I remember…:: the good times I had while traveling
  4. Loneliness:: is the worst feeling in the world
  5. Ooooh:: aaaaah
  6. For real:: most definitely!
  7. Titanium:: steel
  8. Get down:: get down, and move it all around (Backstreet Boys flashback! lol)
  9. Rupture:: tearing it down
  10. Dramatic:: personae – but no, that’s dramatis, isn’t it?
