Pimp post: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries

First of all, Happy Easter to all who celebrate it! Even if you’re not religious, a long weekend never comes amiss, right? 🙂

Charlotte, Lizzie, Lydia & Jane

Anyway, this week my happy place is firmly anchored on Youtube (yes, I know), because the webseries I’ve been following for months now, has reached its final and happy conclusion: The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (link to Youtube playlist)!

Lizzie & Darcy (BBC 1995)

Lizzie & Darcy (BBC 1995)

If you know me at all, you know that Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice is one my all-time favorite novels and that I love the 1995 BBC mini-series like burning (yep, the one with Colin Firth, and the one that’s probably closest to the book).

However, last year, a new webseries started that promised a fresh take on the beloved stories – Lizzie Bennet, grad student, vblogging! Sounds weird, right? But here, let’s hear Lizzie explain it to you herself:

My name is Lizzie Bennet. Just introducing myself as part of a class project. We’re in grad school together. Charlotte’s the mastermind behind the camera, she wanted me to talk about my life, which, yeah, sounds tremendously exciting right? But we’ll do our best to be at least moderately entertaining. Also, in the future, I will try to get Charlotte out from behind her pipe.

So in this first episode, you meet me, my friend Charlotte Lu, and my sister Lydia (accidentally). And I introduce you to a parody of my mom as well, who, hopefully, you will never meet.

That’s how it all started, and it only went up from there. For obvious reasons they deviated from some plotlines that no longer make sense in today’s world, and in some places they even managed to making us care MORE about characters (I’m looking at you, Charlotte Lu and Lydia Bennet). They wrapped at 100 episodes + a number of spin-offs (which add to the plot – especially Lydia’s vblog), as well as a whole host of other social media tie-ins. So if you’re at all interested, I suggest you follow the complete story line on the official website for the complete experience!

I leave you with this really cute introductory fanvid (pretty spoiler-free if you know the book at all, except for faces to names that only get revealed later):

As Lydia would put it: Enjoy the awesome – and the adorbs! *g*

PS. Much to my joy, there’ll be a DVD set, out in July, yay!
