It&#8217;s an annual happening, the biggest fair in the region, and <i>everyone<\/i> goes, even if it&#8217;s just to the Petersplatz (the oldest market, right in front of the university) to buy some of the yummy specialties.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatedream.net\/files\/photos\/messe-petersplatz.jpg\" hspace=5 vspace=5><\/p>\n<p>When I was younger, we always went on rides, spending a lot of money that way &#8212;  but these days it&#8217;s more about walking around taking everything in. And food, of course. *g*<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatedream.net\/files\/photos\/messe-stand.jpg\" hspace=5 vspace=5><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatedream.net\/files\/photos\/messe-ketten.jpg\" hspace=5 vspace=5><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatedream.net\/files\/photos\/messe-kettenrot.jpg\" hspace=5 vspace=5><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatedream.net\/files\/photos\/messe-mrmais.jpg\" hspace=5 vspace=5><\/p>\n<p>Last night I met up with Sandra and we first went up to the M\u00fcnsterplatz (cathedral square), where we took our traditional ride on the huge ferris wheel. It&#8217;s the biggest transportable one in Europe, so I can forgive it for being horribly cheesy &#8212; the view is simply awesome. Specially during the day, but at night as well.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatedream.net\/files\/photos\/messe-sandraeva.jpg\" hspace=5 vspace=5><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatedream.net\/files\/photos\/messe-munster.jpg\" hspace=5 vspace=5><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatedream.net\/files\/photos\/messe-munsterplatz.jpg\" hspace=5 vspace=5><\/p>\n<p>During the fair the Rhine ferries run until late at night. I love taking the ferry, it&#8217;s one of my favorite things to do in Basel. This is the sign of the cathedral ferry &#8211; a lantern like the ones they make for Fasnacht (our carnival):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chocolatedream.net\/files\/photos\/messe-ferry.jpg\" hspace=5 vspace=5><\/p>\n<p>This has nothing to do with the fair.
