Sunday is officially meme time

  3. Mustang:: a car
  4. Waffer:: sorry?
  5. Nicotine:: nasty habit – smelly, too
  6. Fast food:: McDonalds, how much do I love you? 🙂
  7. Suffocate:: don’t close in on me
  8. Myth:: and legend
  9. Lane:: Lois
  10. Unexpected:: surprise

Saturday Senses:
[sight]:: Describe a real life scene that you saw on TV that made you cry.
I know I must have cried about real happenings, but I can’t for the life of me remember right now. Probably about a real sappy reunion or wedding show, though – that sounds like something I’d do. 🙂

[taste]:: What do you usually have for breakfast?
A bowl of cornflakes and a glass of sparkling water (to wash down my vitamins). Also lately a cup of herbal tea that’s supposed to be good for my dermatitis.

[smell]:: Do you wear perfume or cologne? If you do, which one? If you don´t, why not? And how do you choose your fragrances?
I only use perfume when I go out (partly in the hope that it will stop me from smelling like an ashtray). I’ve got a collection of simple smells – green apple, vanilla, and coconut are my favorites.

[touch]:: How do you take care of your skin (body and face)? Do you use moisturizes on a daily basis? Share your tips. 😉
I’ve got dermatitis, so my skin is really dry. I use hand and body lotion that my dermatologist perscribed me. The body lotion is on an almond base, and sadly without perfume or anything, because I’m not allowed. 🙁 For my face I use a lotion for sensitive skin, specially now in winter.

[hearing]:: What is the sound or noise that annoys the hell out of you?
The classic scraping of nails over a blackboard. Makes my skin crawl to just think of it!

Saturday Senses:
[sight]:: I think everybody has a memory related to Mickey Mouse. What´s yours?
Reading the magazine and following their advice on how to be a private investigator. They always had thos funny gadgets, like fake noses and stuff.

[taste]:: Halloween. What´s the best treat you ever got when trick or treating as a kid??
We don’t do trick or treating in Switzerland, so I’ve never done it. *sniff*

[smell]:: “Where there´s smoke, there´s fire” – Have you ever smelled something burning and realized you completely forgot about something in the oven, or forgot the fire on when it was supposed to be off? What happened?
I often forget that I have water boiling, so that maybe half an hour later I rush into the kitchen in a panic.

[touch]:: Have you ever touched an animal like a snake, or a lizard, or a frog, or maybe an insect like a roach? Any animal that is generally thought of as disgusting or gross?
When I was in primary school a friend of mine brought along a tiny little frog from her garden. She put it on her nose and I begged until she let me put it on mine, too. It was a cute little frog, not disgusting at all.

[hearing]:: Do you get scared when you hear a strange, perhaps spooky noise during the night, even if you know that nothing´s wrong? How did you deal with strange and scary noises at night when you were a kid?
I’m more a visual person when it comes to being spooked or scared, I always imagine the monsters lurking in the corner. It’s strange, but I can’t recall being scared by a strange noise…

Warning: superficial answers ahead!

I’m not bored, but I was in the mood for a meme…

The Thursday Thumb-Twiddler

1. Do you get enough exercise in your daily life? If not, why not?
Probably not. Because I’m a lazy twat and never do my exercises. 🙂 Seriously, I ride my bike, but that’s about it. Next week uni starts again, though, and I’ll take ballroom dancing again as well as yoga, so I’ll have a better conscience.

2. If you could speak for one minute by phone with anyone in the world, who would it be, and what would you talk about?
Because I’m feeling superficial I’m saying Billy Boyd (from Lord of the Rings). And I’d quiz him about his friendship with Dominic Monaghan, because they’re so cute together. But then, he’s Scottish, so he could read me the phonebook and I’d be happy… *g* /teeny moment

3. If you could automatically know the answer to one question about about every person you met, what would you want that question to be?
Probably “Do you like me?”, because no matter how much I improve my self-esteem, there’s still much room for self-doubt…

This is another sure sign that I’m home again…

I’m playing with memes again! 🙂

  9. Springfield:: Simpsons
  10. Gardener:: Samwise Gamgee

I’m a bit sick at the moment – maybe part of it is still jetlag, but I also caught a cold on the plane. Oh joy – I so did not miss being sick! 🙂

Pretty much ignoring it – went to work this weekend, and have contacted some of my friends for catch-up sessions. But I’m sure glad that uni doesn’t start for another week, so I can be lazy with a clear conscience… *g*

Not really looking forward to uni this semester – there seem to be no interesting classes anywhere. And I do have to write another paper, too, so I need to find at least one interesting thing in either Medias or German Lit (in Anthropology I already need to write up my fieldwork results)… I might check out the unis of Berne and Freiburg (across the border in Germany) in my desperation. Even if that means taking a train over there every week.

Last memes for two months!

I’m almost all packed (only toiletries still waiting to be stuffed into my handluggage) and am slowly starting to believe I’m actually leaving tomorrow…

Anyway, here’s this week’s Saturday Senses:
[sight]:: fireworks
Sitting at the Rhine with Sibylle on a warm July 31 night (the day before our national holiday), looking up as colorful fireworks explode over our heads. Gold, red, green, and everyone around us is aahing and oohing. It’s exciting and peaceful at once.

[taste]:: being forced, either by circumstance, situation or person, to eat something you absolutely didn´t want to eat.
My mom made some dried beans once, and they were kind of slimy and generally among the yuckiest things I ever had to taste. Once and never again, believe me! 🙂

[smell]:: rain
This summer with its record temperatures was interrupted by strong rain showers sometime last week. It was amazing to open the window and smell the fresh coolness, the earth breathing in relief, after weeks and weeks of stiffling heat…

[touch]:: tickles
My dad tickling the soles of my feet when I was little and had resolved not to be ticklish anymore. I squirmed and laughed, but ultimately actually managed to ignore it. Boy, was I proud! *g*

[hearing]:: (sea) waves
In my mind, the sight and sound of ocean waves is irrevocably connected with traveling around on my own. I always find quiet spots on a beach somewhere, sitting there, taking in the scenery and reading for hours… Some of my favorite memories were made this way.

And the Unconscious Mutterings:

  1. Miss America:: Nick Carter

Friday Five

From here.

1. What’s the last place you traveled to, outside your own home state/country?
Germany, for a family reunion in Dresden.

2. What’s the most bizarre/unusual thing that’s ever happened to you while traveling?
Getting to know a girl who lived only two streets away from me at home in the middle of Las Vegas.

3. If you could take off to anywhere, money and time being no object, where would you go?
A long (very long) Around the World trip.

4. Do you prefer traveling by plane, train or car?
Train, because it’s not as claustrophobic as a plane and I don’t get car sick, so I can read.

5. What’s the next place on your list to visit?
I’m leaving for two months in New Zealand and Australia on Monday, actually.

Time to play the association game again

And here’s the Saturday Senses:
[sight]:: opening your eyes right after your first kiss
The lights of the disco flashing around us, my girlfriends in the background staring unbelievingly and then cheering.

[taste]:: aphrodisiac food (whatever it was or whatever works(ed) for you ;-))
Eating raspberries always sends shivers of pleasure down my spine. They might not be your classic aphrodisiac, but they sure spark a lot of sensual feelings in me.

[smell]:: that specific perfume that drives you crazy on the opposite sex (or that person with that dazzling perfume that drove you crazy – you get the picture…).
A whiff of what is to me “man smell”. I have yet to find out what it is, or if it’s natural in some men – but just last week I passed a guy and smelled it. It always makes me close my eyes and think of strong arms hugging me.

[touch]:: (feeling) chills
Those few moments before a kiss, when you’re eyes lock and the distance between you becomes smaller and smaller…

[hearing]:: whisper(s)
Me and a friend having a sleep over and talking in hushed voices about everything and nothing. You can never exchange confidences as well as in whispers in a dark room…

Picknick in the sun

My mom had made cake yesterday, which I hadn’t eaten because I was at work. Therefore this afternoon found me sitting in my room, on the floor in the one spot reached by the sun, window wide open, eating delicious blackberry/peach cake while listening to my new CD and reading Alice Sebold’s “The Lovely Bones” (one of my favorite books ever). Bliss. One of those days that stick in your memory with warmth and love and peace…
