Time warp

Wow, in the past two days we’ve once again performed time travel from rainy winter to hot summer - this year seems to be full of extremes… But it’s just wonderful to see the sun again, although I have to work this weekend. Spent part of the morning lying outside watching downloaded TV shows on my laptop. Tomorrow I’ll work the morning, so we can celebrate my dad’s birthday (which isn’t until Wednesday, really, but no one is around then) on the balcony. I didn’t really realize how much I missed summer until today…

And this week’s Unconscious Mutterings:

  1. Detachment:: emotional
  2. Regard:: to you
  3. Community:: service
  4. Strike three:: you’re out!
  5. Congregation:: church
  6. Generous:: mean
  7. Pretention:: arrogance
  8. Pregnant:: pause
  9. Drinking:: game
  10. Brilliance:: sparkling

Friendships change1

It’s strange how meeting a friend after some time and spending a lovely evening with him can make you sadder than not seeing him at all…

It just brought home to me that several people who I felt really close to have grown away from me, with different lives and different friends. Sure, they still care about me, but more in a “oh, let’s catch up one of these days” kind of way. And I so very much miss them. But when I do see them (normally on my initiative), everything feels fine, so I don’t mention it (or only very circumspectly), in order not to ruin our time together.

And I’m not sure at all that this blog is the right place to ponder all of this, as it all sounds very pathetic. Plus, public. But I thought about emailing my friends about it and decided not to (because it’s my problem not theirs), yet I did have to put it ‘out there’ somewhere, where it could be found if looked for.

But enough of this already - I don’t feel like wallowing in self-pity. Instead I recommend that everyone who loves movies with a strong female lead, a great 1930s setting and lots of laughter to go see Being Julia! Annette Bening is just awesome in it - a fantastic role for her. Just a really, really satisfying movie experience for me. And that’s what I’m focusing on. :)

Great timing…2

I’ve got a cold (along with pretty much my whole family) - just in time for the one week this semester that I’ll be really busy, with two presentations and a protocol to be done… Wanted to work on the presentation for Monday this morning, but my head’s all stuffy and not cooperating. Will try to at least read the text I have to present before my gynecologist appointment…

Remember my music blog?

Well, I revamped it using WP 1.5. So some of the old content is missing (might re-add it at some point - we’ll see…) but I have started updating at least once a week.

So check it out! :)

Ouch

Since yesterday evening my left hand is hurting - as if I pulled a muscle in my palm or something. Not that that’s likely, seeing that I’m right-handed and didn’t do anything strenuous. Still, it’s bloody annoying (not to say painful) - I never noticed for how many things I need my left hand! Also makes typing difficult and, together with a crick in my neck, makes for a very cranky Eva today. Blech!

Edit: Now it’s afternoon and my hand is better. Still no clue what exactly is wrong, but at least I can type again…

And the week’s already over

So normal life has me again… All my classes have started and it looks to be a good semester. Don’t have a lot of hours anymore - I only needed four to fulfill all requirements but took 12. Because I’m a good student like that. :D

Good thing about the few hours is that it gives me time to think about the last two papers I have to write as well as give some more thought to my thesis topic. This uni thing is going pretty well at the moment. I have to do some small things for several classes, but managed to have them either now or at the end of the semester, giving me free time for when my friend Bronwyn comes to visit for two weeks in May. That’s going to be so much fun! :)

Anyway, here’s this week’s Unconscious Mutterings:

  1. Horrendous:: experience
  2. Home video:: not something I’ve ever done
  3. What a girl wants:: what a girl needs…
  4. Grounded:: American teenager thing
  5. Trusting:: implicitly
  6. Simplistic:: simple
  7. Buzz:: cut
  8. Balcony:: Romeo and Juliet
  9. Roar:: lion
  10. Hooker:: prostitute

It’s over1

My parents silver wedding anniversary has passed - and was a big success! Everyone (all 50+ friends and family) who came to Schloss Beuggen, either for just yesterday or to spend the night, enjoyed it and was more than kind about my and Michael’s organizational skills. Best thing, though? My parents loved it.

My mom wore flowers in her hair and literally glowed, the evening program (which Michi and I had carefully kept secret) went for a bit longer than expected but otherwise smoothly, there was lots of laughter and conversations between people who had either not seen each other in a long time (like me and some of my cousins) or never met before. There were loads of photos taken, but none of them by me, since I happily passed on ‘camera duty’ to others. Might share some pictures later, once they made their way to us.

Now everything has been unpacked, the gifts (which were given despite my parents asking for people to not bring any) have been unwrapped - and we’re all really wiped out. It’s been an intense weekend! Now things can go back to normal, and everyday uni life has me again… With that I’m off the internet, watching more ER and drinking tea. :)

ETA (’edited to add’): Much less positive - my sites have been having some problems, as you might have noticed when you tried to access either the blog or the domain and came up with either a 404 or a strangely empty index page… I’ve had to re-open the support request regarding the issue about three times already - they always tell me they solved it, but then it happens again. Getting very tired of it, believe me!

Appearing quickly1

Did manage to finish the paper (yay!), but am still pretty busy (and slightly stressed about it) because the new semester has started and my parents’ silver wedding anniversary is next weekend. Trying not to freak out over everything that still needs doing… Just wanted to check in quickly and post this banner:

(German site looking for realistic solutions for the file sharing problem, since there’s been so much talk about criminalizing us evil pirates.)

DreamJournal update - and concert news1

Just wanted to let you know, that I have moved my Dream log to DreamJournal, which Patty recommended to me. I like that they help you figure out some of the symbols and what they might mean.

Pretty excited right now, since I just discovered that Tori Amos will play a show in Switzerland after all! Yay - she’s one of my alltime favorites!

Now I just have to find someone to go see her with me…

Also - the Eels are coming, too! Would definitely be interested in seeing them as well. We’ll see how it goes with the money, I guess.
