Being a good girl1

This week is the last week of my break, and that means I had to pull myself together and finally seriously get to work on that paper. So I’ve banned myself from online and pretty much stay holed up in my room, trying to stop myself from banging my head against the wall. :D

It’s very slow going, every paragraph a struggle, but I’ve reached page 13 (of 20 required pages) and I feel as if I might get there. Eventually. If I don’t get distracted too often by my parents’ silver wedding anniversary celebration (April 9/10, at a castle/conference center at the Rhine, with about 50 guests) and complicated plans to rearrange my furniture so I can get rid of the tiny teeny desk I’m sitting on right now, that is. Wish me luck, okay? :)

Makes me wish I was in the UK :)

Curtesy of my brother who obviously knows my interests quite well… :D

& national tour highlights go UK-wide: April - September 2005

24 February 2005

The British Film Institute is delighted to present the 19th London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival which will open on 30th March with a gala opening screening of Prey for Rock & Roll, a delicious biopic starring Gina Gershon (courtesy of Parasol Peccadillo). Our Closing Night gala on 13th April will be Gregg Araki’s Mysterious Skin (courtesy of Tartan Films), a bold and beautiful adaptation of Scott Heim’s novel of childhood trauma. Both screenings take place at the Odeon West End. The rest of the festival will take place at the National Film Theatre and for the first time we will be collaborating on a series of gay artists’ films at Tate Modern.

The London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival is presented by the British Film Institute and programmed by Jonathan Keane, Selina Robertson, Inge Blackman and Brian Robinson. The Festival enjoys the support of a wide range of sponsors including Mayfair Cellars, Renault UK, media partners Time Out, AXM, G3 and Impact distribution. We are also grateful for the support of Soho House, Heaven, Southopia, the Candy Bar, Midnite Express, Konditor & Cook, The Berners Hotel, Canada House, the Goethe Institute, and the Finnish Institute.

This year the LLGFF Patrons’ Scheme includes a highly distinguished group: Clare Balding, Stephen Fry, David Furnish, Paul Gambaccini, Sir Elton John, Isaac Julien, Byrony Lavery, Sir Ian McKellen, Phyllis Nagy, Pratibha Parmar, Patricia Rozema and Sarah Waters.

WP 1.5 themes2

Since I am nowhere near being able to create my own WP theme from scratch, I am currently amusing myself by browsing some of the finished themes people have been making. Here are some of the nifty things I found in the process:

- How To Blog: comprehensive list (over 200 themes)
- Alex King: WP 1.5 theme competition
- Alex King: Theme Browser (surf the competition themes)
- Owen Winkler: Kubrickr (replace the blue blob in the default theme with something else)
- Ryan Boren: Theme Switcher (plugin)

WP update

Made the change to WP 1.5, using the DixieBelle theme. Still some glitches and all, but everything seems to be working for the moment…

Feeling somewhat better today, although still a bit off. Had a hairdresser’s appointment this morning. As usual she made my hair all pretty, but sadly it got rained on on the way back home and suffered. :( But my dad took pictures of it anyway:

Great timing

Should be writing a dream log entry, since I had yet another novella-like dream last night (involving some of my friends and acquaintances, as well as a silent movie theatre, a car and a castle). But I’ve got a touch of the flu and just don’t feel like it. As usual I can’t concentrate worth shit. And here I thought I’d survived this winter surprisingly healthy…

Tax season, ugh!1

I despise doing my taxes. Not that’s it’s very difficult in my case, seeing that all I have to do is copy my bank balance for them and thus prove that my income is waaay under the tax limit. But still, I procrastinate about it every single year, until the deadline is just around the corner. As you might have suspected already, it’s March 30, so I’ve been “enjoying” myself this morning going through my bank information. Fun! ;)

Uni schedule for the summer semester

My break is over in two weeks, so I thought it was time to put together my schedule for the next semester. Go me! :)

The coolest thing is that I went through my notebook and realized that I’ve got enough classes in all three subjects for my degree! So all I have to do is go to that one Oberseminar in German Lit and finish my papers, and nothing should be in the way of me signing up for my Masters thesis/exam after this semester… Okay, so that won’t be before January 2006, because of the stupid deadlines, but still - another step in the right direction!

The classes I’m taking (just to make sure and because I’d feel strange not taking any *g*):

Cultural Anthropology
- “On the African Occult. Religion and Witchcraft in Historical Perspective” (seminary)
- “Picture - Image - Media” - the anthropology of media (seminary)

Medias
- Popular culture and the medias (proseminary)
- Classics of media theory (proseminary)

German Lit
- Literary ethnography (lecture)
- Early mass medias and the beginning of the novella (”ober”-seminary)

And this week’s Unconscious Mutterings:

  1. Stink:: Wäscheklammer (clothes pin - in my nose *g*)

  2. Renewal:: domain
  3. I remember…:: the good times I had while traveling
  4. Loneliness:: is the worst feeling in the world
  5. Ooooh:: aaaaah
  6. For real:: most definitely!
  7. Titanium:: steel
  8. Get down:: get down, and move it all around (Backstreet Boys flashback! lol)
  9. Rupture:: tearing it down
  10. Dramatic:: personae - but no, that’s dramatis, isn’t it?

Updated link lists

Cleaned out all dead links in Fun and games. Also, my list of Interesting people now contains only sites that I have syndicated and read regularly. If you’ve commented here, chances are you’re on that list… :)

No sun today

The air tastes humid, heavy on my tongue, a bit like smoke from a wood fire. Birds are singing outside, but it doesn’t feel real. Not like when the sun is shining and the sky is bright blue. There’s something in the air, in the grey skies hanging low over the trees, that makes me want to be quiet and light a candle. Not sure yet whether in a good or bad way. We’ll see, I guess.
