I got home in one piece, if anyone was wondering, after an awesome week with Märrie. We giggled, talked, went sightseeing (Maastricht, a cave, and the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn) - and had lots of fangirl moments at the RingCon and while watching movies (most notably The Two Towers for the umpteenth time, but the first time for me in German -ugh! dubbing!-, and Matrix:Revolutions, which we spent making stupid jokes and therefore having a good time, despite the movie *g*) and such.
I took a lot of pics at my first convention, which I might post sooner or later — but I came home sick with a throat infection and am still not feeling very well, so I’m taking things easy (and lazy). Also I got the disc with all my NZ photos sent to me from New Plymouth, so that I now have almost all of the pics I took during my two months (thanks to my friend Stefan who restored about half of the deleted photos from my memory card, so that I even have some Australia pictures). That of course means that I could finally update the travel log - but this also will have to wait until I’m feeling a bit more energetic.
On that note I’m off to bed.

I’ll leave in about 15 minutes to catch a train to Siegburg (Germany), where I’ll visit my friend Märrie who lives in a tiny village close-by. We’ve met online about two years ago and have started a semi-regular cycle of visits back and forth, because we just get along so wonderfully.
We’re going to have such a good time again — we have a lot of plans including sightseeing, a trip over the Dutch border, movie watching, and of course our day at the RingCon in Bonn. It’s going to be my first convention ever, and I’m looking forward to it immensely — me, Gimli, Haldir, and several thousand Ring nuts… It’s going to be fun!
Wish everyone who reads this a good week — I’ll be back again next Tuesday.

Saturday Senses:
[sight]:: Describe a real life scene that you saw on TV that made you cry.
I know I must have cried about real happenings, but I can’t for the life of me remember right now. Probably about a real sappy reunion or wedding show, though - that sounds like something I’d do.
[taste]:: What do you usually have for breakfast?
A bowl of cornflakes and a glass of sparkling water (to wash down my vitamins). Also lately a cup of herbal tea that’s supposed to be good for my dermatitis.
[smell]:: Do you wear perfume or cologne? If you do, which one? If you donīt, why not? And how do you choose your fragrances?
I only use perfume when I go out (partly in the hope that it will stop me from smelling like an ashtray). I’ve got a collection of simple smells - green apple, vanilla, and coconut are my favorites.
[touch]:: How do you take care of your skin (body and face)? Do you use moisturizes on a daily basis? Share your tips.
I’ve got dermatitis, so my skin is really dry. I use hand and body lotion that my dermatologist perscribed me. The body lotion is on an almond base, and sadly without perfume or anything, because I’m not allowed.
For my face I use a lotion for sensitive skin, specially now in winter.
[hearing]:: What is the sound or noise that annoys the hell out of you?
The classic scraping of nails over a blackboard. Makes my skin crawl to just think of it!

Can I just say “Ugh”? My whole weekend is spent working (at the reception of an old people’s home) - Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 2.30 to 9.15 pm, without break. Trying to concentrate on the money factor and the fact that pretty much all I do there is play with my laptop and answer the phone occasionally.
But still, that’s my weekend, people! Hope yours is nicer…

Last night were the MTV Europe music awards in Edinburgh. I didn’t watch them (totally forgot - MTV is simply not on my TV schedule), but one of my favorite actors presented an award: Billy Boyd, who plays the hobbit Pippin in my beloved Lord of the Rings movies. I have this thing for Scotsmen (specially Glaswegians), and I also have this thing for men with green eyes. And for hobbits, too. So he’s perfect! *g*
I just saw some pics from last night and couldn’t resist - even created a new “fandom” category for my Billeh-boy. Because at times being a fangirl is fun!

For the last two weeks there have been rides and food and craft stalls all over the city. It’s an annual happening, the biggest fair in the region, and everyone goes, even if it’s just to the Petersplatz (the oldest market, right in front of the university) to buy some of the yummy specialties.

When I was younger, we always went on rides, spending a lot of money that way — but these days it’s more about walking around taking everything in. And food, of course. *g*

Unconscious Mutterings:
- Taboo:: my favorite game
- Poison:: Ivy
- 1983:: childhood…
- Tim:: und Struppi (=the comic “Tintin et Filou” in German)
- Groovy:: 70s
- Italy:: Florence
- Think:: Tank
- Penthouse:: Pretty Woman

- Twinkie:: Hank (from X-Men)
Saturday Senses:
[sight]:: I think everybody has a memory related to Mickey Mouse. Whatīs yours?
Reading the magazine and following their advice on how to be a private investigator. They always had thos funny gadgets, like fake noses and stuff.
[taste]:: Halloween. Whatīs the best treat you ever got when trick or treating as a kid??
We don’t do trick or treating in Switzerland, so I’ve never done it. *sniff*
[smell]:: “Where thereīs smoke, thereīs fire” - Have you ever smelled something burning and realized you completely forgot about something in the oven, or forgot the fire on when it was supposed to be off? What happened?
I often forget that I have water boiling, so that maybe half an hour later I rush into the kitchen in a panic.
[touch]:: Have you ever touched an animal like a snake, or a lizard, or a frog, or maybe an insect like a roach? Any animal that is generally thought of as disgusting or gross?
When I was in primary school a friend of mine brought along a tiny little frog from her garden. She put it on her nose and I begged until she let me put it on mine, too. It was a cute little frog, not disgusting at all.
[hearing]:: Do you get scared when you hear a strange, perhaps spooky noise during the night, even if you know that nothingīs wrong? How did you deal with strange and scary noises at night when you were a kid?
I’m more a visual person when it comes to being spooked or scared, I always imagine the monsters lurking in the corner. It’s strange, but I can’t recall being scared by a strange noise…

It’s not a big holiday here in Switzerland - but it’s an opportunity for me and some of my friends to dress up and go out… So last night found us at the ZicZac in Allschwil, which was decorated (specially the waiters *g*) and later got terribly crowded (and smoky - my eyes really watered). But it was fun - we danced (which feels weird in a long dress) and talked and ate. Not so much drinking, though, because that’s really expensive and I had taken painkillers before.
At one point there’ll be pictures from that party on partysearch.ch, including several with us, because Beat, a friend of ours, was their photographer. Until then - here are some of the pics that I took:

Sibylle made her dress herself - isn’t it gorgeous? I also really enjoyed wearing my dress - it just feels so luxurious!
